Fauquier County’s Department of Community Development is seeking a full-time Zoning Inspector for the Zoning and Development Services division.

Key responsibilities include:

Enforcing the County’s Zoning Ordinance
Inspecting properties for violations or compliance
Researching permit and land records
Preparing written notices of violations
Conducting follow-up site visits to verify compliance
Communicating with violators and complainants
Documenting conditions through written and photographic records
Assisting with legal action and attending court as a witness when needed

Strong interpersonal skills, especially verbal communication, are essential. Experience in zoning enforcement or other law enforcement is strongly preferred.

Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and 3-5 years of experience in enforcement, building inspection, or similar areas. Environmental safety inspector certification, CZA certification, and experience with applicable building codes.
