The Prince George’s County Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Budget Analyst, grade A24, in the Strategic Services Division.
About the Position
This is senior level professional and administrative staff work in all phases of budgetary development and administration or management analyses projects. Incumbents are responsible for performing complex budgetary functions/management analyses projects and may lead a team and/or provide technical guidance and training to other Budget Management Analysts and staff in other divisions. The employee assist in the execution of budget and management functions in carrying out the goals and objectives of the Department.

The Department of the Environment works for a healthy, beautiful and sustainable County through programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling and waste management, litter prevention, sustainable animal management and pet adoption in partnership with residents and other stakeholders. Some of our core services include providing clean water services (Stormwater Management Division); flooding prevention for buildings and structures (Sustainability Division and Stormwater Management Division); collecting, processing and diverting waste from the County-operated landfill, commercial facilities and householders (Resource Recovery Division); providing sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas and emission (Sustainability Division); and facilitating pet adoptions, managing an animal holding facility, issuing pet licenses, investigating cruelty complaints and conducting humane outreach and education events (Animal Services Division).
Coordinates with the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Finance on a variety of operating budget preparation and execution issues for assigned divisions within the Department of the Environment (DoE).
Prepares budget projections for all assigned divisions’ budgets through the fiscal year as they relate to expenditure levels and variances from approved appropriations. Budget projections are prepared and submitted in accordance with established intervals.
Assists the Associate Director and the Budget Manager in the preparation and analysis of the Department's operating budget.
Monitors spending for fiscal compliance with approved budgets and assists with financial reporting needs of various divisions.
Prepares regular financial management reports, analyzes year-to-date expenditures, and makes projections on fiscal year total expenditures and drawdowns.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business/Public Management, Finance, Economics, Quantitative Analyses, or closely related field.
Two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative and budgeting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prefer a minimum of 2 years of budget management experience or equivalent to a Budget Management Analyst I/II.
