JOB SUMMARY
Performs highly complex technical accounting support. Work involves detailed assignments in recording, classifying, examining, and verifying financial records, documents, or reports. Works under limited supervision, with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial accounting documents and records.
- Compiles statistical, financial, accounting, or auditing reports and tables of cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
- Computes, analyzes, prepares, and processes travel vouchers.
- Prepares payment, cash, general journal, and related vouchers.
- Assists with researching and reconciling discrepancies in accounts, bank statements, or appropriation balances; and reports findings.
- Performs data entries in CAPPS and the State of Texas Fleet Management System.
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements and operating reports.
- May assist with annual inventory of equipment and supplies.
- May audit field operating reports, vouchers, claims, invoices, requisitions, estimates, purchase orders, statements, and similar records.
- Performs financial calculations such as amounts due, interest charges, balances, discounts, equity, and principal.
- May receive cash, prepare deposit slips, and maintain cash controls.
- Collaborates with the Finance team and may assist with financial transactions, as needed.
- Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to analyze fiscal management information and determine the appropriate use of funds.
- Proficiency with Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Word, OneDrive, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Data entry experience; minimum of one year.
- Basic Math skills.
- Highly enthusiastic, motivated, and self-directed.
- Professional demeanor with the ability to integrate with a small agency and interact comfortably with board members and members of the legislation and their staff.
- Strong communication skills.
- Must be highly organized.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and exhibit time management skills.
- A keen eye for detail.
- Ability to work a hybrid remote schedule with limited supervision.
- Ability to work more than 40 hours a week, as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience with state accounting, budgetary, and management principles, practices, and procedures; minimum of two years.
- Experience with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts systems such as CAPPS and USAS with voucher entries.
- Experience with the State of Texas travel policies and procedures.
