Information Technology Director is responsible for the integration of all County departments’ technology objectives and goals in support of and consistent with the County’s strategic plan. Responsible for the research, planning, direction, and management of the information technology utilized by Sherburne County. The IT Director reports to the County Administrator and works with all Department Directors to ensure efficient and effective data processing needs for the County. This position develops, recommends and implements County-wide technology solutions and serves as a subject matter expert in many diverse technical issues. Performs outreach to Cities and other government entities across Sherburne County to optimize the technology and efficiencies of local government for the residents of Sherburne County. Directly supports all Department Directors (elected and appointed) to ensure efficient and effective data processing needs for the County. Consults with users, vendors, attends conferences, and meetings to determine future technology requirements costs, designs, constructs, and network infrastructure which are utilized to optimize, enhance and provide solutions for complex business problems.
Manages all IT division staff including hiring, training, performance-based merit evaluations, performance improvement plans, promotions, discipline, termination, and resolution of staff disputes. Determines project assignments, trains new employees on work processes and expectations of position.
Direct supervision of department management staff to provide direction and problem solving. Coach, mentor and develop management staff’s professional skills.
Oversee and monitor outcomes of employee/program performance standards for all staff and contractors.
Direct overall staffing patterns to ensure manageable staff workloads while efficiently utilizing county funds.
Manages the development, implementation and control of the department's annual budget. Which includes long-range capital expenditures, including managing the submission and presentation of the budget to the County Administrator and County Board for approval.
Analyze staffing and department needs and costs; prioritizing and authorizing expenditures and budget alterations.
Analyzes, researches and advises county departments to determine appropriate technologies to accomplish objectives ensuring quality, cost effectiveness, and integration with existing and new technology.
Provides descriptive, statistical and accurate reports on departmental operations; maintain systems of recordkeeping that ensure accuracy, availability, data privacy and security of offender and financial information.
Plans for and improves data processing resources for departments and employees.
Creates and modifies technical instructions, procedures, manuals, and documentation.
Actively Identify, troubleshoot, analyze and resolve highly technical problems in a network environment.
Maintains knowledge of advancing technologies in computer systems, cybersecurity practices, and software applications used in the county.
Attends classes, meetings, vendor seminars and workshops to maintain a high level of technical knowledge and become familiar with new hardware and software developments.
Develop and maintain respectful and cooperative working relationships.
Regular and reliable attendance according to the department’s work schedule.

Ability to manage projects that have high impact and/or of high complexity involving implementation of emerging technologies.
Ability to apply independent judgment, initiation, and discretion in performing job duties.

Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, management information systems, systems analysis, business administration or a related field; AND
Six years of work experience in a related field.
A substantially equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the above job duties.
A valid Driver’s License is required.Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Must be able to exert physical effort for light work. May involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 25 pounds).
Work is performed in office environment. Exposure to keyboards and computer monitors. Headaches, eyestrain and other related occupational hazards reflect the most common potential for injury in the office. May experience temperature and noise extremes while working in the data center and may perform work in confined spaces. Some required work outside of normal business hours.
