Summary:
The Streets Technician 1 must be a hardworking, self-motivated, dependable individual able to work without supervision, who enjoys working with the public. This position is responsible for a variety of duties necessary for the operation and maintenance of the Streets Department. The Streets Technician I shall work at the direction of the Streets Department Supervisor and Lead Streets Technician
HOURS. Monday through Thursday 6:00 am to 3:30 pm and Friday 5:00 am to 9:00 am and additional hours as necessary to meet the needs of the Town of Berthoud.
Additional Hours: Will be required to perform on-call duty, work weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary to meet the needs of the Town of Berthoud
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. •Operates Town vehicles and all equipment such as, but not limited to motor grader, excavator, snowplow, dump trucks, loaders, street sweeper, mowers, etc.
Performs all phases of street maintenance such as, but not limited to street patching, crack sealing, storm drain cleaning, roadside and alley clean-up, mowing weeds, installation and maintenance of traffic control signs, barricades, pavement marking
Performs work at the Town Cemetery, including grave excavations and maintenance activities
Installs and removes barricades and cones during street maintenance. Also works as a certified flagger
Assists all Public Works Departments and additional duties as directed by the Public Works Operations Manager
Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment
Maintain daily activity records and Maintenance logs as required
Employ safety practices and procedures
Maintain effective and courteous working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, and the public
Performs the above duties and other duties as assigned by the Streets Supervisor or the lead Streets Technician

The Streets Technician I must have the ability to work well with other employees, and the public
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals and procedure manuals, as well as write reports
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations to the public, employees, or Board of Trustees as well as respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and/or complaints
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations
Operate trimmers and mowers properly following safety guidelines
Education:
Work Experience:
Street Technician I - Experience in streets maintenance is helpful but not required
Streets Technician II – Minimum 1 to 2 years experience working with Streets Maintenance Operations
Streets Technician III - 2 to 4 year’s experience working with Streets Maintenance Operations
Certificates and Licenses:
The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications for a Technician I and Technician level will be selected based on qualifications and experience as deemed acceptable by the Town of Berthoud
Streets Technician I
As an entry-level position Streets Technician I may operate equipment as a trainee, in the Loader, and skid steer
A valid Colorado Driver’s license (Class C) and evidence of insurability is required
Ability to obtain a (Class B) with air brakes and tanker license within 180 days, costs covered by Town of Berthoud
Evidence of insurability is required
Ability to complete flagger training and be able to demonstrate proper flagging procedures within 30 days of hiring
Ability to complete LTAP Signing, Pavement markings, and MUTCD Class within 180 days of hiring
CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment
Streets Technician II
In addition to the requirements listed above, the Technician II will have increased responsibility and ability to operate additional equipment such as a Loader, large mower, and Skid steer. Able to pull trailers with equipment. Begin grader and excavator training and be willing to train other employees
A valid (Class B) License with Air Brakes and Tanker endorsement
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to set up a basic street work zone
Completed LTAP winter driving and plowing courses
Completed OSHA 10 training
Streets Technician III
In addition to the requirements listed above, the Technician III will have increased responsibility including opening and closing graves, road grading, and excavation and ability to operate all equipment Proficiently and be willing to train other employees
Completed in-house or course-offered training for Road Grader and Excavator
Completed IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Training.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot general maintenance issues with equipment
Has completed LTAP supervisory skills and development courses
