Overview
The Department of Community Services is seeking full-time Animal Control Officers at our Animal Services work unit located in Troutdale, Oregon. The successful candidates will be required to perform animal control law enforcement work enforcing city, county and state animal related ordinances and statues. Officers will investigate damage caused by animals, and respond humanely to animal emergencies. This work frequently involves dealing with emotionally upset or hostile animal owners or complainants. Successful candidates will also be required to handle and capture domestic and wild animals and work in all types of weather.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform physical maneuvers necessary in controlling animals, which may include lifting and carrying animals at least 60 pounds. Extensive walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities is also required.

To Qualify
Experience: One year of experience working with animal control, care, or husbandry, particularly dogs and cats. Additional experience and public contact, preferably high stress public contact, is desirable.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Two years’ of college education is highly desirable.
Other: License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to, obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license. All candidates must have the ability to meet the requirements for obtaining and maintaining a limited commission as a Special Deputy Sheriff for Multnomah County.
All successful candidates will be subject to a detailed background check due to the sensitive nature of investigations and due to the possible use of controlled drugs in relation to chemical capture or euthanasia.

Compose nuisance reports of sufficient clarity to be admitted as evidence.

Work with members of other jurisdictions or agencies possibly entering a scene of crime or providing information.
Write legibly and clearly and complete large quantities of paperwork quickly and accurately.
Perform physical maneuvers necessary in controlling animals; lift and carry at least 60 pounds.
Run and work outdoors in inclement weather.
Drive a manual transmission (stick shift) vehicle.
Required to work a variety of shifts and hours.
