About This Position
Over 48 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2023, one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports) which is operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and has an economic impact over $44 billion annually.
The Terminal Services section of the Aviation Department is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Aviation Supervisor I to provide first-line mentoring and supervision to Facility Contract Compliance staff members as well as performance oversight of a variety of contracted service providers valued over $30 million a year for Sky Harbor International Airport, Deer Valley, and Goodyear Airports ensuring facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained. Some contracted services include and are not limited to, janitorial, custodial, odor control, window cleaning, high dusting, regulated trash, carpet care and hard floor maintenance, and at times, may also oversee contracted crews performing heavy outdoor cleaning activities. This position also serves as a liaison between occupants of City buildings and the contractor to resolve customer complaints, contractual issues, and scope of work deficiencies.
The Aviation Supervisor I will be involved in several different functions including participation in Aviation Department construction meetings, evaluation of contracted services, recommending changes to contracts, attending site walks and virtual meetings with contractors and customers as needed, support KPI goals, generate Work Orders for airport building repairs, ensure staff compliance of aviation rules and regulations, respond and assist where needed to airport emergencies and maintain clear and professional telephone/radio communications.
The Essential Or Major Duties Of This Position Are
- Complete annual employee performance evaluations.
- Assist with recruitments and onboarding for vacant positions within the Facilities & Services, Terminal Services section.
- Train and provide vocational development of subordinates.
- Assign work activities and monitor the workmanship/performance of employees, crews, and service contractors.
- Ensure that employees work safely in a busy airport environment.
- Respond to inquiries or complaints logged by the public, tenants, ground transportation operators or others.
- Interpret Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations.
- Review and update maintenance and operational procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
- Train employees in the enforcement of State statutes, City ordinances, FAA regulations, and departmental rules and procedures.
- Perform administrative duties such as writing performance evaluations, shift reports, use of SAP / xPort software for Work Order Management, computer correspondence/data input or retrieval, investigating/resolving employee issues and recommending appropriate disciplinary or corrective action, employee labor card and timecard compliance.
- Prepare work schedules and ensure adequate staffing.
This is a 3 rd shift position, eight hours a day, Monday - Friday, 10:00 pm to 6:30 am.

SALARY
Pay Range: $22.61 to $42.64 per hour.
Hiring Range: $22.61 to $28.86 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of progressively responsible experience in airport maintenance, operations, or technically specific areas.
- Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Preferred Qualifications

- Supervisor or managerial experience.
- Experience training employees.
- Experience working with service contracts.
- Experience with Work Order Management Systems.
- Experience investigating and resolving customer complaints.
- Experience working at an airport or another 24/7/365 facility.
