The starting salary range for this position is $17.99 - $20.69 depending on qualifications
Fitness work in designated recreation/fitness program(s) and instructing in a variety of recreational activities and or Fitness Classes. May work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.
This position is an Essential classification and will be required to report to duty before, during and immediately after a civil emergency.
Essential Duties

- Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision-making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
- Develops, plans, organizes and implements fitness programs/classes.
- Maintains various records and files.
- May direct, train and oversee the work of at least one part-time employee during duty hours.
- Assigns tasks to staff, provides guidance in performance and completion of duties.
- Plans and performs duties with minimal direction.
- Makes daily written and oral reports.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Circulates throughout the fitness center, greeting and making eye contact with members/guests.
- Monitors and sets up equipment for assigned recreational and Fitness programs.
- Maintains equipment throughout the Recreation/Fitness division of the Event Center and or the Community Center fitness area.
- Provide customer service to guests, memberships to the facility, and enters registration for recreation/fitness programs.
- Performs general housekeeping of floors and carpets and performs litter control functions throughout the facility.
- Disseminate information to the public via email, telephone, or in person.
- Utilizes our REC TRAC software and maintains monthly reports regarding memberships and class/program attendance.
- Provides guidance to members on the use of fitness equipment and basic principles of physical fitness and conditioning.
- May instruct assigned recreational/fitness programs such as: cycling, general health/fitness classes, yoga, Pilates, special events, activities, center programs, etc.
- Assists in front desk/floor coverage to the fitness center and/or recreation desk of the MIDFlorida Event Center or the Community Center.
- Assist in fitness and/or recreation division when hosting special events at the MIDFlorida Event Center, Community Center (and other locations).
- May be eligible to participate in the City’s personal training program. The personal training program is designed to assist patrons at the facility in their exercise program.
- Remain current with fitness industry standards and practices.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Fitness Center Supervisor/Recreation Manager-Fitness.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May oversee the work of non-supervisory employees. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education And/Or Experience
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Minimum of two (2) year of experience working in the fitness industry is required. Some recreation experience is preferred. A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required. CPR/AED training is required to be obtained within 90 days from date of hire. Personal Training Certification required.

- Skills in conducting needs assessments and preparing and presenting recommendations.
- Skills in educating and counseling in a wide range of circumstances from large audiences to one-on-one fitness coaching sessions.
- Ability to utilize strong persuasive skills to advise members/clients on best practices for implementation of applicable/appropriate fitness promotion programming.
- Skills in fitness promotion resource and service selection.
- Knowledge of expense and budget management as it relates to programming and event management.
- Skills in relationship building with community and health organizations.
- Skills in relationship building with client organizations and their employees.
- Ability to gather information from multiple sources, critically read documents, and interpret and draw conclusions from the data.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
