Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. The Chesterfield Employment Services program is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to join the team where we have supported individuals with employment for over fifty years! As a Transportation Supervisor, you will assist persons with developmental disabilities relating to their transportation to and from their jobs daily. Each day presents itself differently!
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; three years of experience in transit or paratransit operations including one year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Two or more years of supervisory experience preferred; experience with individuals with a developmental disability preferred; experience with an electronic dispatching and route management software strongly preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of safety regulations and laws pertaining to vehicle operations; of safe driving practices and techniques; of vehicle maintenance. Ability to operate a multi-passenger vehicle; to operate a passenger-carrying van in a safe and efficient manner; to exercise judgment in emergency situations; to interact with passengers in a courteous and helpful manner; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; to supervise staff; ability to work in a deadline-oriented, flexible and dynamic environment preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at the interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and dated within thirty days of the interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Provides direct supervision and evaluates the work of van drivers and other transportation program staff;
• Analyzes customer needs and makes recommendations for improving and expanding transportation services, programs, and policies;
• Supports the Transit Manager in the recruitment, hiring and training of van drivers;
• Performs, maintains, and coordinates new driver and in-service training; schedules hours for van drivers;
• Performs vehicle inspections for needed repairs, maintenance, and cleaning for over 30 vehicles;
• Prepares and maintains a variety of reports on activities and operations;
• Responds to problems in the field such as equipment failures and vehicle accidents and provide on call support to transportation service;
• Serves as a back-up for route scheduling and dispatch functions;
• Drives vehicles as needed; and
• Performs other work as required.
Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; schedule may vary based on needs of the program and it has an on-call requirement.Mental Health Support Services
