Minimum Qualifications
PLEASE NOTE: Teleworking as a standard practice is not available to court personnel and is authorized by the Chief Judge.
Successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED; at least five years of increasingly responsible secretarial experience in a legal environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience working in a court environment assisting judges is preferred. Significant legal administrative experience, including work of a confidential, sensitive, or personal nature and ability to exercise discretion. Demonstrated knowledge of court caseflow/processing, civil and criminal legal terminology, and emphasis on civil procedure. Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstration of strong organizational skills to excel in a work environment that requires handling a high volume of requests that necessitate multiple levels of follow-through/follow-up and careful attention to detail and consistent accuracy. Ability to understand court docketing and to manage docket control expectations of the judges according to established guidelines, local rules, preferred procedures, and/or at the discretion of the judges.

Duties
Chesterfield County is seeking a Judicial Assistant to provide specialized executive-level assistance and legal support to two circuit court judges to effectively manage the judges' workloads and official court schedules. Responsible for scheduling all civil cases for the judges and some criminal matters. Must be able to work effectively with attorneys and their staff and
pro se litigants to set civil hearings. Prepare and distribute all civil dockets for the judges with consistent accuracy. Assess and coordinate multiple changes to dockets. Work closely with the judges' law clerks and staff of the Judges' Chambers to ensure the court schedule remains accurate and to help ensure effective caseflow management. Update hearing records in the Circuit Court Case Management System (CCMS) and other department systems. Serve as a liaison between the judges and internal and external customers. Personally respond to various inquiries from citizens, lawyers, courthouse personnel, and other entities about cases assigned to the judges. Handle phone calls and emails received for the judges and their cases; screen and refer callers; provide appropriate procedural guidance and information on department services/functions; and recommend resolution to requests for information. Provide legal support for retired substitute judges. Provide specialized legal and administrative project support for special sessions of court, such as docket call. Provide back-up support (phone coverage and other duties) on a regular basis. Perform other work as required.
