POSITION VACANCY
TITLE: Building Inspector
LOCATION: City of Pasco, WA (on-site)
SALARY: $74,443.20 - $89,377.60 annually ($35.79 - $42.97 hourly), depending on qualifications
JOB TYPE: Regular/Full-Time
UNION STATUS: Non-rep
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm
CLOSING DATE: This position is open until filled, with applications reviewed every two weeks.
THE ROLE:As a Building Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with building, fire, mechanical, plumbing, energy, handicapped, and municipal codes through field inspections and plan reviews.
The ideal candidate for this role will have two (2) years of building construction and building code experience, strong problem-solving and technical interpretation skills, and the ability to foster a culture based on integrity and respect. You will collaborate with developers, contractors, architects, engineers, and City staff to review and enforce code compliance. A background check and verification of certifications are required upon acceptance of a conditional offer.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Experience: Two (2) years of experience with both building construction and building code
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Washington State driver’s license
- ICC Building Inspector certification (required before completion of probationary period)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Additional certifications in related fields (e.g., plumbing, mechanical, energy, or fire codes)
- Experience in municipal code enforcement
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

SAFETY/WORK CONDITIONS:- Environment: Duties performed in varying weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
- Physical Requirements: Frequently climbs ladders, moves around construction sites, and operates inspection tools.
- Hazards: Physical hazards include heavy equipment, traffic, air pollution, and chemicals.
- On-call rotation: Required for 24-hour emergency call-backs.
- Weekend Work: May be required for early morning, late night, or weekend inspections.
