This is an unpaid fellowship working up to 16 hours per week, Monday-Friday. This opportunity is available to four (4) fellows, working a hybrid (onsite/remote) schedule.

The ideal candidate is a service-minded individual with a positive outlook, interested in public service and local government. They will work closely with the Public Information Officer, directly supporting them in utilizing media and communications strategically to achieve organizational goals through assigned projects. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate within a dynamic government organization, providing valuable experience and an insider's view into the workings of the communications division. The ideal candidate should be highly creative, proficient in visual content creation and storytelling, and skilled in leveraging new communication tools, artistry, and channels to effectively engage both internal and external audiences.
The Communications Director supports a full range of initiatives that may include areas such as public relations, internal communications and government relations.
- Support the goals of the organization by developing and executing integrated communications that effectively present the City of Pinole’s vision and mission to the public
- Clearly and accurately communicate safety and other public information through media and other channels
- Create graphic designs for digital and print media adhering to branding guidelines
- Source photos and videos, organize files in online platforms
- Support efforts to increase public engagement through targeted community outreach
- Create an engaged and safety-minded workforce through effective employee communications
- Create visual content for social media and other internal and external communication channels
- Post content to the City of Pinole’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, YouTube, threads and others.
- Provide social media channel support
- Provide meeting and event support (photography/video)
Performs other projects, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
The Ideal Candidate is:
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited university
- Interested in communications, public relations, and/or publishing
- Experienced in social media content creation
- Experienced with digital production/editing software
- Able to travel as necessary (up to 20 percent of project schedule)
- Able to create clear and engaging content and has strong writing skills
- Able to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Experienced with Canva, Sharepoint, and Public Input is a plus
