Description
The Animal Services Technician is responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of animals at the Animal Shelter. Key duties include maintaining cleanliness in kennels and common areas, providing daily care such as feeding, bathing, and medicating animals, and evaluating their physical and behavioral conditions. The role also involves assessing the needs of incoming animals and contributing to their overall care and socialization.
Examples of Duties
- Observes animals to determine health, eating habits, and behavioral issues; assesses the general physical condition of incoming animals; and assists in determining the animal’s immediate needs.
- Performs animal care duties, which includes: feeding, watering, and grooming animals; monitoring animals for illness, disease, or injury; administering medications and vaccines to animals; socializing animals; and performing other related activities.
- Administers euthanasia as needed.
- Cleans and disinfects animal holding areas; monitors the security of facilities.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of files, records, reports, logs, or other related information.
- Performs other related duties of a similar nature or level.
Typical Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
- Requires a tenth (10th) grade education level.
- One (1) year of animal care or related work experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Supplemental Information
All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
