LIMITED TERM RECRUITMENT
This position is a 3-year limited-term position. Limited-term assignments cannot exceed three years. However, the long term need and funding for this position may be re-evaluated at a later date. Limited duration positions receive benefits equivalent to their FTE status.
PAY AND BENEFITS
Annual Pay Range: $48,941.09 - $61,718.87
Hourly Pay Range: $25.097997 - $31.650705
Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Clackamas County is hiring two Weatherization Energy Auditor Trainees to join its mission-driven Weatherization Services team. This opportunity will let you build valuable skills while directly improving the lives of low-income individuals and families in our community.
As a trainee, you will enter a supportive, hands-on training program where you will learn to conduct energy audits, assess home efficiency, and educate residents on energy-saving practices. Working closely with experienced professionals, you will gain the knowledge and certifications needed to become a certified Weatherization Energy Auditor/Inspector. This role is ideal for someone passionate about sustainability, energy efficiency, or building science who is looking to establish a meaningful, long-term career.
You will assist with home energy assessments and safety evaluations, learning to use diagnostic tools such as blower doors, pressure testing equipment, and duct testers. Training includes evaluating insulation, air sealing, and ventilation needs, and recommending improvements. You will also strengthen your communication skills by helping clients understand how to reduce utility costs, increase comfort, and improve home safety.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
• Basic math skills (ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and fractions)
• Basic computer proficiency, including email and simple data entry
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including clients, coworkers, and contractors
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in attics, crawl spaces, and other confined areas
• Ability to attend and complete required training and certification coursework
Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
• Experience or training in building maintenance, construction, weatherization, or related fields
• Prior experience working with low-income or underserved populations
• Familiarity with hand tools and light power tools
• Understanding of basic building codes or energy efficiency concepts
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills

TYPICAL TASKS
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
• Performs and receives training in order to acquire the skills, certifications, and knowledge required for a Weatherization Energy Auditor/Inspector. Training includes areas such as weatherization and building science, conducting diagnostic testing, and providing energy education to clients.
• Performs and receives training in the measuring building shell, replacement windows and doors; assessing existing insulation level in roofs, walls, and floors; and assessing home health and safety issues.
• Performs and receives training in conducting diagnostic testing to determine baseline energy efficiency including blower door test, duct system tests, combustion, and pressure diagnostic testing.
• Performs and receives training in educating clients about energy saving techniques regarding heating, cooling, water, electricity, and gas use.
• Communicates with clients to answer questions, schedule audits, and resolve issues.
• Assists with the maintenance of equipment, tools, vehicles, and shop area.
• Responsible for personal, customer, and site safety, contributing to team safety, and attending staff and safety meetings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties require walking, squatting, crawling, scooching while lying on back or stomach, kneeling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, reaching, fine motor control, and the ability to lift, carry, push and pull objects. Duties also involve exposure to confined spaces such as crawl spaces, attics, inside furnace closets, and under mobile homes, loud noises, slippery surfaces, dust, poor visibility, adverse weather conditions, working at heights on ladders and on roofs, and a variety of hazards inside and outside homes including mold and mildew, thick tobacco smoke, potential lead paint and asbestos, all types of household trash, medical or drug garbage, pet and vermin waste or carcasses, pests including insects that bite and sting, spiders and rodents, and contact with grey water or raw sewage.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position is included in the county's alternate workweek program, working 37.5 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended. This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
