DEFINITION:Under direction, participate and provide supervision in support of Dispatch Center activities utilizing a computer aided dispatch system during an assigned shift; perform related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:Work is performed in the Communications Center in the Police Department. Environment includes exposure to stressful situations. Work hours are irregular. Subject to working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Mostly sedentary work requiring ability to work at a keyboard for long periods of time; good vision; hearing acuity and verbal clarity when speaking.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:Positions in this class serve as shift supervisors and have full first-line supervisory responsibility over assigned personnel. Direction is provided by the Police Support Manager or Police Lieutenant, and responsibilities include supervision over subordinate Dispatchers. Incumbents may serve as training coordinator for formal training and performance programs. This position is distinguished from the Police Support Manager by the latter's overall responsibility to plan, organize and manage the operations of the Dispatch Center.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:- Receives direction from the Police Support Manager or Police Lieutenant.
- Provides direct supervision to assigned Dispatch personnel.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Three (3) years of full-time public safety dispatching experience is required.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE
- A valid California Class C Driver's License is required.
- P.O.S.T. Dispatch Certificate is required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
- Candidates in this class will be required to pass a background investigation in accordance with applicable law, regulation and/or policy.
- Incumbents must be willing to work rotating shifts, including weekends and/or holidays and be able to work in a closed/confining stressful environment.
