Descriptive Statement
The Real Time Crime Center Technician is a non-exempt position under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant. This is a fast paced, analytical, technical, and administrative position involving automated systems pertaining to law enforcement public safety communications. The purpose of this classification is to collect, analyze, and provide real-time crime information from a variety of sources that support the prevention, detection and solving of crime. Provides support of tactical operations to the police department by performing functions such as real-time camera monitoring and activity communication as well as immediate research and retrieval, data collection, and reporting. This position will also assist operational and administrative personnel in planning the deployment of resources for the suppression of criminal activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for monitoring, interpreting, and relaying information from various law enforcement systems and databases
- Responsible for monitoring and taking control of drones, providing real time information to Dispatch and responding officers based off drone footage.
- Monitors the citywide security camera network, Pueblo County resources within the city, public/private partnership cameras, license plate reader (LPR) data and alerts, and other systems used to support law enforcement and to assist in the management of planned and unplanned special events
- Assists detectives on investigations requiring information from Real-Time Crime Center resources
- Responsible for reporting any criminal, unauthorized or irregular activity to public safety dispatchers and/or law enforcement officers as well as assist in the response to in-progress incidents
- Performs daily maintenance of the City's real-time crime databases and reports
- Monitors laws, rules, policies, procedures, and emerging technology in the field of real-time crime center operations and recommends new or improved technologies, processes, or procedures
- Attends technical or professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve technical or professional skills
- Acquires, stores, and retrieves data, reports, and other crime-related information to and from law enforcement databases including CAD, radio traffic, video feeds, and telephone
- Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, and city laws and ordinances, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and safety procedures
- Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, graphs, technical support documentation, publications, policies, procedures, or other documentationin order to review, complete, process, forward, or retain as appropriate
- Communicates with supervisor, City officials, employees, other departments, vendors, service providers, system users, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction
- Maintains awareness of all activities such as in-progress calls for services, critical incidents, to connect related information, and provide additional support by visually and audibly monitoring available sources
- Accurately inputs, updates, requests, and transmits queries from a variety of sources to maintain current accurate records or to access databases for information, wants and warrant checks, intelligence and/or driver license and vehicle registrations checks
- Reviews daily bulletins by reviewing crime statistics, incident reports, and CAD data in order to remain current on wanted and active criminal suspects, stolen vehicles, other crime, and officer safety concerns
- Maintains security and integrity of all information contained at the Real-Time Crime Center
- Advises appropriate personnel of criminal activity via radio, telephone, and CAD
- Provides real-time video and audio support to officers for crimes in progress, crimes freshly committed, and historical data to support ongoing criminal investigations
- Assists operational and administrative personnel in planning the deployment of resources for the suppression of criminal activities
- This position may be required to testify in court

Physical Requirements
The physical standards an employee must meet in order to perform the essential job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation include, but are not limited to:
- The position is generally sedentary but may walk or stand for brief periods of time
- The position involves light physical demands, such as lifting up to 25 lbs. occasionally, and up to 10 lbs. frequently
- Must be able to hear and distinguish between multiple levels of sounds, frequencies, tones, and tones of voice
- Must be able to speak clearly with excellent articulation, proper professional language, and appropriate tone and volume level
- Must have adequate manual dexterity to operate radio, telephone, and computer equipment
- This position will need to have clear vision and the ability to distinguish between various colors

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must have knowledge of:
- Map reading to include distinguishing directions
- Standard operation of radios and multi-line telephones
- Computer operation with multiple screens, related office equipment, and computer-aided software programs to access and enter information through the use of word processors, spreadsheets, and databases
- Proper English spelling, punctuation, and grammar and the ability to tactfully communicate both in writing and orally
- Ability, and willingness, to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays

- Learn and abide by department policies, practices, techniques, and methods required to perform the essential functions

- Operate multi-frequency 2-way radio and multi-line telephone systems while maintaining composure and room awareness

Minimum Qualifications
In addition to the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, the position requires:
Education/Experience –
- A high school diploma or GED
- One (1) year of experience in law enforcement (Officer, Community Service Officer, Code Enforcement Officer, dispatcher, support services), security, or surveillance monitoring
Preferred
- An associate degree from an accredited institution is preferred
- Two (2) years of experience in law enforcement (Officer, Community Service Officer, Code Enforcement Officer, dispatcher, support services), security, or surveillance monitoring is preferred
Licenses/Certificates:
- A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment
- License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification
- During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license
Special Requirements
Illegal drug usage, as described below, may be cause for disqualification:
- Any use of marijuana within 1 year prior to the date of application
- Any usage of any illegal drugs other than marijuana (i.e. heroin, cocaine, LSD, amphetamines, steroids, or other illegal drug as defined in schedules I through V of Section 202 of the Controlled Substances Act) within two (2) years prior to the date of application

Special Conditions Of Employment
Individual will be exposed to highly stressful emergency situations where injury or death may occur as a result of an error. May be required to work in a seated position for extended periods of time, with limited mobility in a highly-structured environment.
