The Opportunity
As Chief of Police, you will serve as a key member of the City’s executive leadership team, reporting directly to the City Manager. The Chief of Police will oversee a full-service police department with dedicated staff committed to safety, integrity and professional excellence. The Chief will be responsible for strategic planning, crime reduction initiatives, staff development, budget management, and fostering strong relationships with residents, businesses, regional partners, and community stakeholders. The City’s Police Department includes patrol, SWAT, bomb team, criminal investigations, 911 dispatch, community policing, school resource officers, neighborhood watch and much more.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Bullhead City Police Department.
Oversee sworn and civilian staff, ensuring professional development and accountability.
Champion community policing, outreach, and problem-solving initiatives.
Collaborate with City leadership, local organizations, and regional partners to enhance public safety.
Develop and manage departmental budgets and resources effectively.
Promote innovation, transparency, and trust through communication and engagement.
Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local laws.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a progressive law enforcement leader who embraces collaboration, innovation, and accountability. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of ethical leadership, a commitment to officer wellness and training, a strong focus on building positive relationships with the community and outstanding communication skills with the entire Police Department team.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred) or at least 10 years experience in a police administrative leadership role.
Extensive, progressively responsible law enforcement experience, including command-level leadership in a department with at least 50 employees.
Graduation from the FBI National Academy, Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, or equivalent leadership program preferred.
Arizona POST certification or ability to obtain certification upon appointment.
