Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Accounting Intern will work independently to assist the Finance staff with tasks primarily related to daily accounting duties and preparation for audit.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

- Complete process of obtaining confirmation letters for the City’s annual audit.
- Prepare year-end journal entries.
- Prepare daily journal entries.
- Prepare budget line item transfers.
- Compile information for CAFR appendix tables.
- Prepare requisitions for payment.
- Assist Accounts Payable clerk with AP duties.
- Assist Accounts Receivable clerk with AR duties.
- Assist with duties related to preparation of the budget book.
- Provide excellent customer service, when applicable.
- Purge documents and organize files as needed.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic accounting practices.
- High level computer skills, specifically Excel & Word.
- Ability to complete tasks accurately and timely.
- Ability to learn site specific software.
- Good interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and neat appearance.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and provide exceptional customer service in a fast paced office.
- Ability to use and apply systematic methods for accuracy.
- Ability to work with fellow employees in a courteous, positive, and team environment.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:
- Computer and related software, printers, telephone, copier, scanner
Education, Certification and Experience Required:
- Current student classified as a college junior, senior, or in a related Master’s program at an accredited university with a minimum 3.25 GPA.
- Possession of a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Duties are generally performed in an office setting. Some light work requiring occasional lifting objects up to 20 pounds to move objects. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Work may also require stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling.
