Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Accounting Specialist will work independently to assist the Finance Department with tasks primarily related to daily reconciliations and related accounting processes.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Verify daily cash collections and prepare bank deposit.
2. Verify and upload daily sub-ledger activity into general ledger.
3. Create and record journal entries as needed including standard recurring entries.
4. Prepare and/or assist with reconciliations, as assigned.
5. Research and compile statistics for Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
6. Create invoices on behalf of the City.
7. Renew and manage Alcoholic Beverage Licenses for entities within the City.
8. Completed returned item process, as needed.
9. Complete stale date check process, including quarterly report.
10. Assist with petty cash, inventory counts, and confidential funds audits.
11. Serves as record management coordinator for department.
12. Compile departmental metrics for reporting.
13. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
· Working knowledge of accounts receivable/payable
· Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
· Attention to detail
· Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices
· Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance
Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:
· Computer and related software, hardware, scanner, printer, telephone, and copier.
Education, Certification and Experience Required:
· Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Related experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferred.
· Possession of a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Duties are generally performed in an office setting. Some light work requiring occasional lifting objects up to 30 pounds to move objects. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Work may require stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling.
