The Prince George’s County Department of Permitting, Inspections, & Enforcement is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN 1G) grade G16positionin the Building Permit Processing Unit Division.
About the Position
This is an entry-level to full performance para-professional Engineering Technician position in the Permit Processing Unit where work is performed in the office, and the application of engineering skill is required to assist higher level paraprofessionals or professional engineers by providing skilled and technical work in support of County-wide engineering and planning projects. Assignments are performed under close supervision of a higher-level Engineering Technician, III and the Permit Center Manager. The incumbent is responsible for pre-screening application, plan screening, plans coordination, assist customers with technical guidance in the Virtinal Permit Center - (VPC), problem resolution and information gathering to assist customers through the plans review and permitting process. Work is performed that affords independent judgment and technical evaluation under the general supervision of the Permit Center Manager and/or the Assistant Associate Director for the Division or designee. The incumbent performs work diligently to complete tasks and duties as assigned to meet agency needs. The incumbent is required to maintain current knowledge of the permit process and procedures for Prince George's County.
About The AgencyThe Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) is responsible for coordinating and enforcing standards that control what goes on before, during, and after construction. Staff from nine agencies, who work cooperatively on permit processing, business licensing, plan review, inspection and enforcement comprise Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement. The Mission of the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement is to promote economic development in Prince George's County and protect the safety of County residents, businesses, and visitors through efficient permitting, inspection and licensing services to ensure compliance with established building, zoning and property standards codes.- Pre-screen permit applications for building construction projects; o Perform all project coordination and project administrator tasks on the ePlan/ProjectDox system including plans screening of residential and commercial building plan submissions for completeness prior to submission of an application for permits
- Check applications and workflows
- Monitor e-Plan cases submitted and ensure submittals are organized and reviewed according to date received
- Coordinate collation, stamping and release of approved plans for permit issuance
- Verify that all reviews and approvals are appropriately recorded in our electronic permitting systems
- Ensure in-house archiving of issued permits and plans are completed in accordance with the approved records retention schedule
- Ensure that the e-Plan system is accessible, reliable and functional for internal and external users
- Provide training to internal and external users as required and/or requested
- Generate e-Plan reports
- Handle inquiries from internal and external customers as it pertains to general permit application submittal and permitting requirements
- Provide assistance in reviewing architectural and structural plans submitted with applications for permits to construct minor residential projects, i.e., decks, fences and solar panels.
Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation from high school or GED, including or supplemented by courses in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
- One (1) year of para-professional engineering work
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience coordinating with other permitting agencies to acquire or issue permits
- Experience with the process/modeling/design changes and reengineering
- Experience with electronic permitting systems
- Experience with database tools, creating and executing reports
- Experience with processing bonds and coordinating the release of bonds
- Ability to effectively speak and present in a public forum
