NATURE OF WORK: The Information Technology Specialistisunder general supervision and provides first-line technical assistance to end users for computer systems, software, mobile devices, and peripheral equipment. This position focuses on resolving routine IT issues, escalating complex problems to higher-level staff, and ensuring a high standard of customer service. The Technical Support Specialist works closely with senior IT staff to learn and grow in technical competencies.

Ability to listen to, read, understand, and communicate the English language both orally and in writing so others can understand, such as correspondence, report writing, and emails.

Provide first-level technical support to staff via phone, email, and in-person for hardware, software, and network-related issues.
Troubleshoot and resolve common computer problems including slow performance, application errors, wireless connectivity issues, and peripheral malfunctions.
Assist with new user setup including workstation configuration, account creation, and access to applications.
Install and configure standard desktop software packages and perform basic updates under guidance.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all support requests in the IT helpdesk system.
Assist with IT asset tracking, including tagging equipment, updating inventory records, and preparing retired equipment for disposal.
Support mobile device configuration and troubleshooting.
Assist with basic printer and copier maintenance and connectivity.
Provide basic training to end users on common software applications and IT policies.
Escalate more complex technical issues to higher-level IT staff as appropriate.
Follow established procedures for software patching, system backups, and security updates.
Maintain awareness of current IT security best practices and report potential threats or vulnerabilities to senior IT staff.
Participate in ongoing learning opportunities to improve technical skills and knowledge.
Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and software troubleshooting.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in non-technical terms.
Ability to follow documented procedures and instructions accurately.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality customer service.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURE
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
3 years of experience providing IT support or systems administration.
Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Experience providing technical support for Windows-based systems, Microsoft Office applications, and basic networking.
Preferred:
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Experience in public/municipal sector.
Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Information Technology or related field.
IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Modern Desktop Administrator Associate.

The employee is regularly required to exercise visual concentration, listen, talk, stand, reach, twist, and demonstrate manual dexterity. The employee is required to focus attention on tasks without losing concentration or becoming distracted by surrounding activities and interruptions. The employee is also required to kneel, squat, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 117 pounds on an occasional basis. Work is generally performed in an office setting.
