Job Description
This position performs duties related to enforcement of applicable building regulations ordinance and zoning ordinance in support of the Building Inspections Department programs and functions.
Examples of Duties
- Performs inspections and re-inspections to ensure compliance with building regulations ordinance and zoning ordinance.
- Investigates complaints received from the public regarding the application of building regulations ordinance and zoning ordinance.
- Contacts complainants and property owners to discuss violations and appropriate corrective actions necessary to ensure compliance.
- Prepares and maintains case files.
- Prepares correction letters and/or notice and orders.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Two years of work experience in code enforcement or related land use experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to provide sufficient evidence of the successful performance of the essential functions of the job.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

- Knowledge of the techniques, methods and trends related to building regulations and planning principles.
- Knowledge of structural, electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing, and fire prevention codes for building construction.

- Knowledge of construction industry standards.
