Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to provide custodial care maintaining a clean, sanitary environment for the animals, including cleaning kennels, play areas, and equipment for the animals housed at Metro Animal Services.
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions
- The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Clean and disinfect wards, kennels, cages, outside areas, and other designated areas and/or equipment throughout the shelter
- Collects, washes, and distributes food and water bowls to impounded animals
- Maintain equipment and supplies used to maintain kennel operations at the shelter
- Performs special cleaning projects
- Performs related work as assigned
- Works under close supervision according to set procedures
- Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
Other Minimum Requirements
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as mandated by OSHA
- Must possess and maintain a valid government issued ID.
- Must have the ability to work a varied schedule.
Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs non-sedentary work that involves walking or standing, can involve lifting and carrying items weighing up to 100 pounds within a team setting. some of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
- Can require spending prolonged periods of time exposed to the elements.
- Sufficient vision and hearing are needed to detect and correct mechanical problems with equipment.
Unavoidable Hazards (work Environment)
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to: bright/dim light; dusts and pollen; extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife; or other extreme hazards not listed above.
