Under direct supervision, performs light clerical and recordkeeping duties related to the library; shelves books; performs related work, as required.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:- Prepare books and library materials for circulation.
- Sort, file, and shelve books, documents, periodicals, films, and recordings.
- Assist the public by answering inquiries at the counter and over the telephone.
- Process materials, including videos, gift books, paperbacks, and books on tape.
- Fill requests from daily automated request lists.
- Check in magazines and newspapers and maintain collections.
- Pack and unpack deliveries and donations.
- Assist with completing supply orders and maintain inventory.
- May maintain simple statistical records.
- Label and make minor repairs to books, materials, and equipment.
- Utilize computer related software, type simple reports, labels, and forms.
- Operate copier, laminators, and paper cutters.
- Cashiering, processing various monetary transactions.
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma OR GED equivalent AND six months of general clerical experience that includes public contact experience. Library experience is desirable.
License and Certification Requirement:
Must possess a valid California class “C” driver’s license upon hire and maintain throughout the length of employment with the City of Victorville.
Knowledge of:
- Modern office methods, procedures, and equipment including personal computers.
- Filing methods and recordkeeping to maintain accurate information in alphabetical, chronological and/or numerical order.
- Dewey Decimal system and library database software.
Skill in:
- Providing efficient customer service and communicating clearly and objectively both verbally and in writing.
- Organizing with the ability to prioritize work and exercise independent judgment, wisdom, common sense, and initiative.
- Thoroughly carrying out oral and written instructions.
- Working with the public.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public; and applying safe work practices.
Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment. Incumbent shall be exposed to those conditions normally encountered in an indoor and outdoor environment. Physical demands are moderate, consisting primarily of sitting, standing, walking, some lifting and moving of tables, chairs, and equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range, with or without correction, and communicate verbally and in written form with great facility and must be able to be understood. Incumbent must have the stamina to work long hours and overtime, if assigned, and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts.
