A building inspector ensures that construction projects comply with building codes and regulations by conducting inspections at different stages of construction, renovation, or repair. They review plans and specifications, verify compliance with safety standards, and provide guidance to builders and contractors. Additionally, they address inquiries from the public and ensure adherence to zoning and environmental requirements.

Education And/or Experience
Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Building Inspector. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of two (2) years of experience in building construction field as a journey level craftsperson in one (1) or more of the principal construction trades with the equivalent to one (1) year experience in building inspection with a public agency or the performance of related work, and a High School diploma or GED, supplemented by specialized training.
License/Certificate
- Must obtain, within one (1) year of employment, a Building Inspector Certificate issued by the International Code Council (ICC).
