Information Technology Technician

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to provide technical support and maintenance for computer systems, hardware, and software across the organization. This role includes troubleshooting issues, assisting users, and ensuring the efficient operation of IT systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Set up and deploy desktop and laptop computers, mobile devices, printers, and peripheral equipment for staff. Ensure all devices are functioning optimally and meet city standards for performance and security.

Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network connectivity problems for end-users. Apply systematic approaches to identify root causes and provide effective, timely resolutions.

Provide end-user assistance for Windows and/or IOS platforms, as well as Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.

Monitor the IT support ticketing system and prioritize tickets based on urgency and impact. Provide timely, clear communication to end-users throughout the resolution process.

Accurately log technical issues, solutions, system configurations, and support procedures in the IT knowledge base to ensure consistent support and future reference.

Use remote desktop support tools and mobile device management (MDM) platforms to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues for remote and hybrid employees across multiple locations.

Conduct system updates, software patches, hardware replacements, and preventative maintenance tasks on computers, servers, and network devices. Ensure minimal disruption to operations during maintenance activities.

Follow established IT standards, procedures, and best practices. Promote cybersecurity awareness and compliance among users, contributing to the overall security posture of the organization.
Perform other related duties as assigned, requested and required.

Education and Experience:

Vocational/Technical degree with training emphasis in computer technology, network communications, computer repair, and programming with two (2) years of experience in hardware/software diagnostics/repair and software applications preferred; or a combination of high school diploma and relevant industry standard certifications which may include A+, ITF+, Network+, Security+, CCNA, MCP, MTA, MCSE in conjunction with (2) years of experience in hardware/software diagnostics/repair and software applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium work. The employee is frequently required to apply 30 pounds of force to move objects. The employee is occasionally required to exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally requires: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing voices and distinguishing among sounds, kneeling, lifting, manual dexterity, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, expressing ideas by the spoken word and shouting to be heard above ambient noise, visual acuity in data/color/observations/operating equipment/inspect defects or measurements, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed both indoors and, in the field, where essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as machinery or electric currents. Work is performed dealing with crisis situations that require making decisions involving people, resources, and property.
