Position Overview
The Disaster Project Manager assigned to the Kerr Together Long-Term Recovery Operation is responsible for assisting in the coordination of disaster response and recovery projects initiated to date. This role requires strong organizational, and communication skills to ensure that all project objectives are met efficiently and effectively, especially under challenging deadline circumstances.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists with tracking and implementing comprehensive disaster response and recovery project plans as assigned.
- Coordinate with internal teams, external agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project alignment and resource allocation.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies as needed.
- Prepare and present status reports, documentation, and post-disaster assessments to management and stakeholders.
- Ensure financial monitoring and effective use of project budgets as needed.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, organizational policies, and legal requirements.
- Assists in Overseeing budgeting, scheduling, and procurement of assigned projects/resources.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Project Management, Business Management, Communications or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in project management, preferably in disaster recovery or emergency response and/ or economic development, redevelopment or City Management/Administrative fields.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and adapt to multi-disciplinary projects.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively especially written and verbal tasks. Excellent writing skills are a must.
- Proficiency in Microsoft products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint etc…. ability to learn and use project management software and tools is a plus.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel to disaster sites as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications such as PMP, FEMA ISO courses, or related credentials.
- Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or Philanthropic Organizations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Intergovernmental knowledge of Federal/State roles and legislative relationships.
- Knowledge of profit & loss and general business financing concepts is a plus.
- Knowledge of grants- State/Federal/Philanthropic Foundations
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
Working Conditions
This position may require working in challenging environments and responding to emergencies outside of regular business hours. The Disaster Project Manager must be adaptable and prepared to accept instructions/coaching and develop skills to lead projects, teams and special initiatives in rapidly changing situations.
