Description
Applications are being accepted by the Sports Division in the Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture for part-time soccer officials to officiate games for adults participating in the City adult soccer league, which is anticipated to start on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m.
We are looking for positive, self-motivated individuals with a high level of maturity who can communicate with participants, coaches, and spectators in a positive, reassuring, courteous, and professional manner. You must be safety conscious and committed to providing a safe and fun atmosphere for all involved in the soccer program. You'll be joining an innovative and collaborative team committed to providing exceptional customer service as well as diverse cultural, artistic, and recreational opportunities and interests to promote the health and well-being of residents and visitors.
Starting hourly rate is within the anticipated hiring range ($20 to $30 per hour) and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Hours per week will vary based on operational needs, but will generally not exceed an average of 4 to 6 hours per week. Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.

What You Will Do With Us
- Officiate soccer games to ensure all rules and regulations are adhered to and the safety of all participants and spectators is protected.
- Organize supplies and equipment.
- Inspect playing surface and/or equipment to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
- Maintain appropriate level of control, fairness, and consistency in all competitive situations.
- Resolve participant conflicts with tact and diplomacy.
- Attend scheduled training or evaluation sessions.
- Keep proper records as necessary.
- Assist in creating a positive and encouraging environment for participants in the program.

Qualifications
What you will need to be considered:
- Must be at least 20 years of age.
- At least 2 years of soccer officiating experience.
- Demonstrated professional work habits including punctuality, reliability, and dependability, and ability to work as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to speak English and Spanish preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to make quick and sound decisions.
- Be able to understand, carry out, and provide written and oral directions.
- Physical ability to lift/carry materials weighing up to 60 pounds and to stand continuously for at least 4 hours.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred (may be obtained through the City upon hire).
- Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties and responsibilities.
