High school diploma or GED; college coursework in and/or specialized training in urban planning, business, law enforcement or a related field is desired; (bachelor's degree in urban planning, business, law enforcement or a related field preferred); two years of experience in law enforcement, investigations, code enforcement, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Those candidates with verbal and written fluency in both English and Spanish are encouraged to apply.
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Performs enforcement of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Property Maintenance Code, the Chesterfield County Zoning Ordinance, and Licensing Ordinances. Inspects assigned geographic areas for violations of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Property Maintenance Code, the Chesterfield Zoning Ordinance and various licensing laws; contacts delinquent property owners and businesses, explains a path to compliance and ensures they comply within a reasonable period; issues, responds to and keeps records of all interactions and correspondence with property owners including official notices, citations, criminal complaints, and summons as required by law; gathers and documents evidence that establishes a violation of county code has occurred; brings criminal complaints before the magistrate and presents evidence in General District Court relating to the violation; establishes and maintains relationships with county residents, apartment complex managers, community groups and other parties involved in community enhancement efforts. Perform other work as required.
