Forsyth County's Tax Administration Department is searching for an organized individual for an open Tax Auditor position. The Tax Auditor is responsible conducting audits and processes business personal property tax listings. This position handles highly confidential information.
There are opportunities to attend classes, seminars, and workshops pertaining to NC Property Tax Legislation and Taxation. There is the potential for growth within the department.A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Working knowledge of state laws and local policies and procedures relating to property appraisal
Working knowledge of the accepted principles and procedures of the appraisal of business property.
Working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
Ability to interpret and explain laws and policies relating to the listing and assessing of property.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
Ability to travel as work requires.
Ability to complete courses in the appraisal of personal property.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.Graduation from a four-year college with a major in business or accounting or a related field and at least one year relevant experience; or
Graduation from a technical or community college with a degree in business or accounting and at least three years relevant experience; or
Graduation from high school or GED with courses in bookkeeping or record-keeping and at least five years relevant experience.
Must have a valid NC driver's license.
Must be able to attain certification by the N.C. Department of Revenue.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Performs the appraisals of business and industrial property; and reviews state franchise and income tax returns and/or the financial records of the taxpayer at the business location, etc.
Locates new businesses by canvassing assigned areas of the county and reviewing relative date.
Acknowledges taxpayers requests for extension in accordance with the General Statutes; responds through mailing of form letters.
Makes discoveries of property not listed. Performs related work as needed.
Gathers and analyzes data to determine the value of business property.
Assists taxpayers with questions or problems relating to business personal property.
Meets with property owners and their representatives to hear questions and to explain assessment practices and procedures.
Conducts field and desk audits of business accounts.
Reviews listing forms for completeness; and may send a letter stating why the listing form is rejected.
Performs related work as needed.
