Company Description
Sporty’s is the world’s largest pilot shop, providing high-quality aviation products and supplies for over 65 years. Many of our products are designed in-house by a dedicated team of pilots and tested in our flight school. We also operate two general merchandise catalogs, an avionics shop, and manage the Clermont County Airport. Located in suburban Cincinnati, Ohio, Sporty’s continues to lead the aviation industry with innovation and unparalleled customer service.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Chief Financial Officer, based in Batavia, OH. We are seeking a strategic Chief Financial Officer to succeed our long-tenured CFO, who is retiring. This is a "foundational" leadership role, acting as a key partner to the CEO. The mandate is to modernize financial operations, leverage our new ERP (Acumatica) for deep business intelligence, and lead a dedicated team of five. The CFO will oversee the financial strategy and operations of the company, including financial planning, managing financial statements, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The role will also involve providing actionable insights through financial analysis, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and supporting key operational and strategic decisions.
Qualifications
We are looking for a mid-market specialist—someone who thrives in the $50M–$150M space
and understands the nuances of a legacy family-owned or privately held business.
- Strategic and operational: Ability to pivot from high-level capital strategy and banking
relationships to granular margin analysis in the four retail brands.
- ERP power user: High proficiency in Acumatica (or similar mid-market ERPs) to drive
automation and eliminate manual reporting.
- Industry fluency: Familiarity with B2C retail (high-volume inventory) is a significant
advantage; experience in aviation is a bonus but not required.
- Leader: A mentor who can elevate the existing accounting team and instill a culture of
data-driven decision-making among the senior leadership team.
- Eye for detail: Proficiency in analyzing and preparing Financial Statements and Financial Reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Strong communicator: Exceptional communication skills to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline; CPA or MBA is preferred
