ABOUT THE ROLE:
The City of Fountain Valley is seeking a dedicated, motivated, and skilled Information Technology Technician to join the Information Technology Department. In this role, you will be the front line of technical support, responsible for diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues, supporting end-users, and maintaining the stability of our organization's IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings a mix of technical expertise, sharp troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

In addition to the key responsibilities listed above, this position also performs the following essential duties:
- Provides support for the City’s computer workstations, mobile devices, and telecommunication systems; assists users in resolving hardware, software, and access issues.
- Installs, configures, and maintains computer workstations, software, and related equipment; supports network-connected devices such as workstations, monitors, and cabling.
- Assists in the administration and support of user accounts, access, and standard applications in City systems.
- Maintains and supports computer hardware and related systems, including printers, servers, communication systems, and telephones.
- Responds to system issues to minimize downtime; assists with troubleshooting, error correction, and coordination with vendors during outages or scheduled maintenance; may participate in after-hours support as needed.
- Travels to various City facilities to install, maintain, and repair information technology equipment and systems; transport tools, hardware, and equipment necessary to perform assigned duties in a timely and efficient manner.
EDUCATION:
- Graduation from High School or equivalent.
- College level coursework in computer science, management information systems or a related field is highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE:
- Two years of responsible technical experience involving personal computer installation, software configuration, and hardware setup.
- At least one year of experience supporting a medium to large user environment operating within a Microsoft Windows environment.
LICENSE REQUIRED:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record is required to perform the essential functions of this position, including travel between City facilities and transport of equipment. The City will evaluate whether alternative means of transportation would allow an individual to perform these essential functions in accordance with applicable law.
