Job Purpose:
This internship position is an opportunity to work for the Government Affairs Division of the South Carolina Department of Commerce. The position is expected to assist with legislative research, policy analysis and briefing materials, event and meeting support and special projects. The project work is centered on state government operations, legislative affairs, and economic development policy.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research and analyze state legislation and policies that impact economic development, workforce initiatives, and business regulations.
- Assist in the planning and execution of legislative events, briefings, and meetings with legislators, state agencies, government officials, and businesses.
- Attend legislative hearings, economic development meetings, and events to observe and report on key discussions. Assist staff with communications with partners inside and outside the division.
- Provide general administrative support to the Government Affairs team as needed.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.
Must possess excellent oral, written and communication/presentation skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with emphasis on Excel. Must be detailed and goal-orientated, creative and flexible. Ability to organize time sensitive assignments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of economic development activities. Knowledge of resources available throughout the State to attract and aid business.
Must possess a valid SC driver's license. This position may include travel.
Additional Comments
This is a part-time, temporary position with a 20-hour work week.
