The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Public Information Officer to lead strategic public relations, media outreach, and organizational communication initiatives. In this role, you will join an award-winning creative team to foster deep community trust, manage public awareness campaigns, and elevate LACOE’s presence at a countywide level.
The Public Information Officer plans, develops, and implements strategic communications activities; advises upon and manages effective media, community, and public relations; maintains editorial and graphics standards; and coordinates and produces special public events.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
- Principles, theories, and practices of communications, marketing, public relations and related resources
- Principles and techniques of applying different media to promote strategic policies and priorities
- Principles and practices of planning and maintaining content on websites and social media
- Principles and methods of quantitative and qualitative research and analysis
- Procedures for crisis communications
- Methods and equipment used in photography and video production
- Digital accessibility standards including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
- AI tools and ethical guidelines for AI in communications
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applicable applications
- Fundamental concepts of employment laws, codes, and regulations, including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, and Cal/OSHA and applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreements

Required Education and ExperienceEducation: A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, graphic design, cinematic arts/film/television productions, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification, from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accrediting organization recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Experience: Five years of experience in coordinating, developing, and implementing communications, media, and public relations activities for a communications, public relations, public affairs, or marketing department or agency.
Equivalency Provision: A master’s degree with major coursework in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, graphic design, cinematic arts/film/television productions, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification may substitute for two of the five years of experience. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Additional Requirements: A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites is required. A master’s degree in a closely related field and public sector experience are desired.
Hybrid remote schedules may be available. To ensure the health and safety of its staff, LACOE may require employees to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19.
