ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Arcadia is seeking a professional and customer-focused Senior Building Inspector/Building Inspector to join our Development Services team. We are looking for someone who can clearly explain complex building codes to homeowners, contractors, and business owners while maintaining a tactful and solutions-oriented approach. The ideal candidate is a problem solver who helps applicants navigate challenges and find a path forward, works collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders, and is highly organized and comfortable using technology, including mobile inspection tools and permitting software such as Energov.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects, including an eight-story, 359-unit mixed-use development, a five-story, 181-unit mixed-use development, major multifamily housing projects, a new hotel, large custom homes, the Santa Anita Racetrack, a regional shopping mall, and many other exciting developments shaping the future of Arcadia.

DEFINITION

BUILDING INSPECTOR:
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Building Inspector is the journey level position in the Building Inspector class series. Positions at this level perform the full journey level responsibilities of a Building Inspector, but do not plan nor direct the work of staff. Additionally, Building Inspectors are responsible for conducting inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings at various stages of construction, alteration, and repair to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations. They review plans and specifications, identify code violations, and provide information and assistance to the public regarding building codes and regulations. Building Inspectors work independently in the field, maintain detailed records, and prepare reports on their findings. Positions in this Building Inspector class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the Senior Building Inspector level may be filled by advancement from the existing Building Inspector level with the City of Arcadia, provided all minimum qualifications and staffing procedures listed in the Personnel Rules & Regulations are met. When filled from the outside, the employee is similarly required to meet the minimum qualification standards.

They also play a key role in mentoring journey level inspectors, ensuring quality control, and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the building inspection process. Positions in this Building Inspector class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the Senior Building Inspector level may be filled by advancement from the existing Building Inspector level with the City of Arcadia, provided all minimum qualifications and staffing procedures listed in the Personnel Rules & Regulations are met. When filled from the outside, the employee is similarly required to meet the minimum qualification standards.

Receives complaints of building, plumbing, electrical, housing, dangerous building and mechanical code and ordinance violations; investigate or forward complaint to appropriate personnel.

BUILDING INSPECTOR
Experience:Five years of journey level experience in the building trades.
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in building codes.
License/Certificate:
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
Possession of ICC certification as a Building Inspector within one year of date of hire.
SENIOR BUILDING INSPECTOR
Experience:
Four (4) years of experience as a Building Inspector or an equivalent position.
Training:
Equivalent to a high school diploma. Supplemental courses in engineering, architecture, or construction is desirable.
License/Certificate:
Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
Possession of an ICC certification as a Building Inspector. Possession of ICC Plumbing, Electrical and Mechanical Inspection certification are desirable.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to work in a standard office environment including the ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, and climb; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
