About This Opportunity
Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for a
Data Analyst to join our Emergency Management (EM) team and support Fire Services. The Data Analyst is responsible for performing data analysis to identify agency operational efficiencies and areas for performance improvement and translating complex data into actionable insights that will help drive strategic decision-making. This role collaborates with various departments and other stakeholders to identify key metrics, examine trends, and develop comprehensive reports and dashboards.
Responsibilities
The Data Analyst works under the general direction of the EM Fire Services Administrator and will work closely in collaboration with the Business Analyst Supervisor, who is based in the Information Technology department. Some key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing emergency response data, including response times, incident volumes, staffing, apparatus utilization, and geographic trends.
- Examining and manipulating large datasets to identify trends, develop charts, and create visual presentations.
- Interpreting data, analyzing results using statistical techniques, and providing ongoing reports and dashboards.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, geographic information systems (GIS), or related field
AND two (2) years of fire services or public safety programming and applications experience;
OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Valid North Carolina or South Carolina drivers’ license is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with large datasets and relational databases. Ability to interpret comp-lex datasets and communicate to non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of statistical software. Experience with ImageTrend a plus.
- Experience developing executive dashboards and predictive analytics models.
- Proficiency in database management, reporting automation and data visualization.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or an amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are for Light to Moderate Work.
