The City of Lenexa Parks and Recreation department is currently accepting applications for a part-time, year-round Recreation Program Coordinator to join our team.

Hours
This is a part-time benefits-eligible position and typically runs at 25 - 29 hours per week. Depending on the season, hours will include evening classes from 5-7:30 PM during the week and 7 AM - 2 PM on Saturday's in the spring and fall months. Other hours may come from doing administrative work and field maintenance during the weekdays.
Position Summary
The Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the development, facilitating and overseeing youth sports, as well as additional support and supervision in in adult sports and other enrichment programs. Must have the ability to instruct introductory preschool sports and activities, make decisions quickly and communicate with parents/guardians effectively.
Essential Functions, Duties And Responsibilities
- Effectively plans, organizes and leads participants in a variety of activities.
- Communicates clearly with staff/parents/and participants.
- Assists with various programs and events.
- Prepares multiple athletic fields for game day operations; including but not limited to dragging fields, lining fields and any other necessary tasks.
- Creates a supply list and manages the needs of supplies to effectively run the programs.
- Responsible for the health and well-being of participants by practicing and enforcing all policies, safety regulations and emergency procedures.
- Documents and communicates all situations, disturbances and incidents to the Recreation Supervisor.
- Attends trainings and planning meetings as scheduled and needed.
- Travels to other City facilities and parks.
- Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Compliance with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Minimum: Must be at least 18 years old; High school diploma or G.E.D.; and have one year of experience working with youth in a leadership role. Must have First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain within six months of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must complete required NIMS IS-100 and IS-700 trainings within three months of employment.
Desired: College credit hours in parks and recreation, youth development, education, sports management or related field of study.
Environment and Physical Factors
This position encounters medium physical work, requiring the ability to teach classes, the ability to communicate with class participants and the ability to assist disabled individuals. Lifting and moving of supplies and materials related to recreation programs, activities and events will be encountered. Long hours of standing with limited breaks will be encountered. Other physical requirements include visual acuity to review information; hearing and speech ability to give and receive information to the public and co-workers.
Compensation And Benefits
Hiring range is from
$18.85 - $21.22 per hour depending on qualifications and directly related experience. This is a part-time, hourly non-exempt position. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
