Position Summary
This position assists with the on-site management and daily operations of the Farmers Market as well as responsible for assisting in the development, facilitating, and overseeing nature and/or interpretive programs.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position. This position must be able to work the following: Saturdays 6 a.m.- 2 p.m. (most Saturdays May-October, one Saturday a month during January-April and November-December) and Tuesdays 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. (between Memorial Day and Labor Day) and the occasional holiday. Regular weekday schedule will be scheduled according to needs.
Essential Functions, Duties And Responsibilities
- Effectively plans, organizes and leads participants in a variety of nature programs.
- Communicates clearly with vendors, musicians, artists, sponsors and volunteers for the Farmers Market as well as staff and program participants. Ensures that vendor applications are complete and assists vendors in understanding rules and regulations. Makes certain all paperwork is complete and kept current.
- Aids the on-site management and operational support on market day of the Farmers Market in the absence of the Recreation Supervisor including, but not limited to set-up, operation and shut-down of the Farmers Market/Senior Center.
- Prepares contracts and processes invoices for musicians, artists and sponsors.
- Reconciles transactions at the end of the market and completes end-of-day operations report. Assists with the management of token debit programs including SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
- Answers basic customer service questions from customers and vendors. Handles emergencies, complaints, vendor and customer requests.
- Performs light custodial duties, sweeping, mopping, picking up trash, etc. Ensures that all equipment and facilities are in working order.
- Enforces the rules and guidelines for programs & Events.
- Assists with farm/vendor visits.
- Creates promotional materials as needed.
- Must be able to transport participants on a City shuttle bus (15-passenger lift bus).
- Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.

- May meet and work with other City staff, volunteers and advisory boards that impact the division and department.
- Assists with other programs and events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D.; one year of experience working in a fast-paced, customer service environment. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have satisfactory credit history. Must have First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain within six months of employment. Must complete required NIMS IS-100 and IS-700 trainings within three months of employment.
Desired: College credit hours in parks and recreation; experience in the agricultural field; managing and promoting events; working with seniors, not-for-profit community, volunteers and/or agriculture-based groups.
Compensation And Benefits
Hiring range is from
$18.85 - $21.22 per hour depending on qualifications and directly related experience. This is a part-time, hourly non-exempt position. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:

Environment and Physical Factors
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. This position performs medium physical work requiring the ability to lift and move supplies and materials related to recreation programs, activities and events including tables, chairs, traffic barricades, tents and signage; the ability to occasionally lift up to 20-30 lbs.; and long hours of standing with limited breaks will be encountered during market and on trips.
