The Program Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Salina community by coordinating volunteers, managing event logistics, & facilitating programs that celebrate arts & culture. This position is central in facilitating engaging community programs, supporting diverse artistic events, & planning the Smoky Hill River Festival, including the kids area of the Festival. With responsibilities ranging from database management to public engagement, this position allows for creativity, organizational skills, communication, independent & effective collaboration with volunteers & the public to assist in enriching the arts in Salina.

On-the-Job Training: Training is led by experienced staff who are passionate about Salina's Arts & Humanities initiatives. Through hands-on guidance & collaborative mentorship by experienced staff our new employee will learn essential skills like event logistics, volunteer coordination, database management, & planning key events like the Smoky Hill River Festival. Our Program Assistant will learn how to use a variety of office software & manage complex projects that bolster Salina's cultural scene. This supportive environment is designed to help growth in the role, taking full advantage of the daily learning opportunities.
Duties:
· Composes & types a wide variety of correspondence including letters, reports, & social media content; prepares bulk mailings.
· Screens phone calls & greets the public with professionalism & courtesy.
· Utilizes various office software to manage calendars, databases, & program logistics.
· Helps to facilitate a wide variety of projects & activities; supports program implementation for the Smoky Hill River Festival & other Arts & Humanities programs.
· Facilitates event registrations & monitors budgets.
· Coordinates volunteer recruitment, training, & scheduling for events & programs.
· Maintains organized records, reports, & project documentation.
· Provides logistical support for meetings, workshops, & community outreach events.
Education:
· High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience:
· Four (4) years of progressively responsible clerical work and/or experience in arts, education, event planning, or a related field.
· Office management, typing, computers, database management, & other clerical functions.
· Must possess strong written & verbal communications skills.
Requirements:
· Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Work Type:
· Light, exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
· Sits about 65% of the time.
· Works inside throughout the year & works outside during special events.
Equipment:
· Calculator, computer, copy machine, golf cart, printer, scanner, telephone, & vehicles.
Hours:
· Monday – Friday.
· 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
· Hours vary around special events.
Salary DOQ EOE:
· $18.26-19.17/hr.
· $37,981-39,874/yr.
· Additional $1.50/hour paid for hours worked after 6:00 p.m. & before 6:00 a.m.
Paid Time Off:
· 48 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 48 hours earned during the year (96 hours in first year).
· 96 hours of sick leave during first year.
