Job Duties Include, But Not Limited To
- Receives and responds to citizen inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints related to municipal code and zoning ordinance regulations, business license regulations, and nuisance abatement.
- Performs field inspections and re-inspections to verify compliance or non-compliance with development standards, nuisance related ordinances, and zoning codes affecting private property.
- Patrols all areas of the City to monitor overall compliance of codes related to the use and maintenance of private property and compliance with business license regulations.
- Provides notifications of non-compliance and the corrective actions necessary to owners or occupants of properties found in non-compliance.
- Assists citizens by providing information relative to City development standards, codes, and land use regulations.
- Maintains records of cases where violations are observed and corrective action is necessary.
- Issues summonses to appear before municipal judge as necessary.
- Prepares evidentiary documentation for use in cases where non-compliance results in appearance before the municipal judge.

Qualifications: Requires an associate degree in business administration, criminal justice, construction management, or a related field supplemented by five years experience in code compliance, municipal government, zoning administration, law enforcement, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the position of a Code Compliance Inspector III. Must have required certifications. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must possess IPMC certification or obtain within 6 months of employment.
Pay info: Salary range $50,162.19 – $70,228.22. Excellent benefits package including 14 holidays, participation in the State Retirement System, the SC Deferred Compensation Plan, and the State Health Plan with the employee’s health and basic dental insurance premiums paid by the city.

JOB TITLE: CODE COMPLIANCE INSPECTOR III
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under limited supervision, enforces all applicable provisions of the City’s municipal code and zoning ordinance that pertain to the development, use and maintenance of private property. Disseminates code compliance information to the general public and performs related administrative and technical work as assigned. Administers and enforces various ordinances and related codes for nuisance abatement, rental housing, various environment codes and other codes as required. Reports to the Code Compliance Manager.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists in performing annual inspections on residential rental buildings and grounds to enforce city codes and other related codes and to ensure rental properties are licensed.
Identifies potential building code violations to be reported to the proper authority.
Keeps abreast of all changes in City Ordinances and completes periodic training related to code enforcement, planning and zoning administration, sign regulation, landscape regulation and job-related duties.
Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other City departments, business owners and operators, vendors, and the general public contacted in the course of work.
Delivers and retrieves department documents, materials and supplies as necessary.
Performs general administrative / office duties as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, compiling data for reports, sending and retrieving faxes, etc.
Performs all duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of safety.
Receives and/or reviews various forms, reports, correspondence, policies, directories, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate.
Prepares and/or processes a variety of documentation associated with department operations, per established procedures and within designated timeframes; reviews various documentation for accuracy and completeness; distributes/issues various documentation.
May oversee Code Inspection Department in the absence of the Code Compliance Manager.
Refers to policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.
Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a computer, radio, telephone, camera, ladders, maps, ticket book, guidebooks, measuring instruments, public records, codebooks, fire extinguishers, etc.
Uses a variety of tools such as standard office tools, etc.; a variety of supplies such as general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other programs.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as immediate supervisor, coworkers, other department heads and staff, and the general public.
