Duties
- Inspects facilities and checks for compliance with presiding ordinances concerning public safety, noise levels, sanitation, campfires, parking, etc.
- Assists in planning daily operation of a recreation area providing such facilities as camping, water sports, or picnic areas; coordinates routine activities with maintenance personnel.
- Patrols designated land and water areas to ensure visitor safety and administrative compliance.
- Assists in creating or revising interpretive materials, such as pamphlets, visual aids, and/or educational displays.
- Provides visitors with information concerning points of interest, travel routes, historical and natural features, park activities, etc.
- Responds to emergency calls and takes necessary action to protect visitors and resources, resolve problems, report violators, and provide emergency first aid and other appropriate assistance.
- Fosters/maintains rapport with counterparts and affiliated agency contacts to ensure cooperative and efficient implementation of procedures and processes.
- Maintains composure amid urgent situations involving individuals exhibiting distressed behavior; demonstrates equanimity when assisting staff and visitors during emergency situations and special events.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within this classification.

- Must possess and maintain a valid State's driver's license to operate a government owned vehicle. Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position.
- You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.
- Position is identified as a Drug Testing Designated Position. Incumbent is subject to drug testing prior to employment and on a random basis thereafter.
- Required to complete the Department of Interior's Motorboat Operator Certification Course (MOCC).
- Required to wear authorized Bureau of Reclamation uniform in the performance of duties.
- Must possess or obtain certification in First-Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) issued through the Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- This position is designated as a Non-Sensitive low-level position and requires a fully completed and favorably adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
- The Bureau of Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework during emergency situations or natural disaster.
- Occasional overnight business travel may be required.
Qualifications
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the education and/or specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the GS-05, you must possess one year of specialized experience that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal civil service; as it pertains to the management of designated parks and/or recreation areas and the conservation of natural and cultural resources. Examples of qualifying experience: Regularly patrolling outdoor areas and/or inspecting facilities to ensure visitor safety and administrative compliance; assisting in developing interpretative materials to distribute or present to diverse audiences; serving as a park aide and/or providing visitor assistance services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level in the Federal civil service (GS-04).

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 03/13/2025.
Education
This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience at the GS-05 grade level.
