This position will be an integral part of building the Roanoke Police Department's first Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), working closely with community partners to enhance how we engage with individuals facing mental health or developmental challenges, behavioral health issues, homelessness, substance use, or other stressors. COMPENSATION: $2,721.15 - 3,673.56 bi-weekly, DOQ
(equivalent to $70,749.90 - 95,512.56/year)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the CID Sergeant, the incumbent responds to individuals experiencing a crisis and works to prevent repeated crises. Crises may be related to stress, mental illness, substance use, or other behavioral health issues. In partnership with the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) police officer, this person performs job duties including, but not limited to: answer calls for service and/or assists patrol officers and other Teams with in-progress calls; conduct follow up outreach to individuals who have engaged with emergency services; facilitate and perform needs assessments; provide ongoing and ad hoc education to family members, caregivers, and City staff; and partner with outside agencies and community partners. This is a highly visible, public-facing position engaging with individuals involved in high stress and/or dangerous situations, requiring the successful use of independent judgement, discretion, and tact.
