The City of Vacaville is currently recruiting to fill three (3) full-time Equipment Mechanic positions within the Public Works Department Fleet Division. This recruitment will also establish an eligibility list to be used for any future vacancies over the next 12-month period.
Salary and Benefits Information
$80,292 - $97,595 Annually

This position is eligible for certification pay:
Emergency Vehicle Technician I = $2,560/year ($98.46 per pay period)
Emergency Vehicle Technician II = $3,070/year ($118.07 per pay period)
Emergency Vehicle Technician III = $5,120/year ($196.92 per pay period)
All tools, tool boxes and diagnostic equipment required for this position are provided by the City of Vacaville.
As an Equipment Mechanic for the City of Vacaville, you'll be at the heart of maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of vehicles, from public safety units to heavy construction machinery. Whether you're troubleshooting an engine, repairing high-pressure hydraulic systems or welding custom parts, every day presents new and exciting challenges. Additional duties include:
Execute preventive maintenance schedules that keep the fleet running efficiently.
Respond to emergency vehicle breakdowns with quick, efficient repairs in the field.
Perform hands-on work fabricating and customizing parts using drilling, cutting and welding equipment.
Diagnose and repair electrical systems, from high-voltage generators to ignition systems.
Rebuild complex hydraulic systems including pumps, hoses, and valves, to keep the City’s machinery in top shape.
Collaborate with public safety teams ensuring police cars and fire trucks are equipped and ready.
Use advanced computer diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and optimize vehicle performance.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities is:
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Additional automotive/equipment maintenance classes are desirable.
Experience: Two years of work experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive and other power-driven equipment. Previous experience maintaining transit or school buses and/or heavy construction equipment is desirable. Completion of a specialized course of study or apprentice program can be substituted for one year of experience.
License or Certificate: Possession of the National Institute for Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) test for T(4) Brakes, and T(8) Preventative Maintenance Inspections and EPA Type II Certificate for handling refrigerants are desirable at the time of hire and are conditions of passing probation and of continued employment.
A Class B License with passenger endorsement is required prior to completion of probation and is a condition of continued employment.
