Proof of licenses, certifications, and/or education must be submitted with each application.The Community Sustainability Coordinator will work with the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) and the Energy & Sustainability Coordinator tocultivate a culture of environmental sustainability across Baltimore County by developing, coordinating, and leading initiatives in partnership with County agencies and community-based organizations. This position will work in a professional and dynamic environment on a broad portfolio of sustainability initiatives requiring a team player who possesses diplomatic, organizational, critical thinking, analytical and creative skills. The Community Sustainability Coordinatorwill interact with Countystaff, consultants, partner organizations, and the general public. A focus of this position will be sustainability communication and community engagementthat contribute to our community’s ability to thrive through cooperative climate and sustainability action.
Drives Sustainability communications including: developing public messaging and materials in coordination with the Office of Communications and CSO; proactively harnessing the website and social media to deliver sustainability communication publicly; collaborating on the compilation, writing and distribution of Sustainability reports; preparing and editing presentations, Decision Memos, and reports for CSO to DEPS Director,Executive staff, boards and commissions and/or County Council; coordinating and tracking of Sustainability metrics associated with the Enterprise Strategic Plan, Climate Action Plans, and other goals.
Represents the DEPS with external stakeholders and community-based organizations at public meetings and events (some evenings and weekends).
Coordinates the iterative and generative process of articulating the County’s sustainability message and strategy, sharing stories and resources, listening to community insights and concerns, growing relationships, and improving Baltimore County’s sustainability message and strategy collaboratively based on what is learned throughout the process. This includes collaboration between governments and communitiesbeyond Baltimore County.
- Serves as a liaison to internal County government workgroups, initiatives, and teams including Green@Work.
- Represents the CSO at meetings, training sessions, on committees, and with other internal groups.
- Joins Office of Sustainability colleagues and other departments inmanagingprojects and processes that may be complex in nature and that may include: identifying, developing and activating partnerships, networks, and campaigns promoting sustainability and sharing resources within the Baltimore County government and within the Baltimore County community; coordinating planning exercises; coordinating with other County offices and agencies; establishing and monitoring timelines; preparing/managing requests for proposals; ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, specifications, and/or requirements; tracking project milestones and deliverables; preparing notes, memos, and reports; and seeking relevant approvals from CountyOffices.
- Performs technical and policy analysis, including conducting research; identifying pertinent issues and examining options/opposing perspectives; summarizing findings; presenting results and offering recommendations/ options.
- Researches and tracks funding opportunities, including grants, Federal and State assistance, and private sector (foundation, business, local) cost-sharing opportunities; developing proposals, maintaining a spreadsheet/database with current information, and tracking requests, awards, and reportingrequirements.
- Provides limited administrative tasks including coordinating and scheduling meetings and follow-up; tracking progress toward Sustainability goals; identifying opportunities to elevate/highlight with stakeholders and County leadership; providing research and writing on topics as requested by CSO; attending meetings, presentations, or events on behalf of CSO; other duties asrequested.

Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.
