Duties include ensuring the overall health, treatment and diagnosis of animals impounded at the Irving Animal Shelter; performing spay / neuter surgeries; evaluating quarantined animals involved in bites; prescribing euthanasia for badly injured or ill animals; administering vaccinations and ensuring proper sanitary measures are in place; and providing medical training to shelter staff and animal services officers. Minimum qualifications include being Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an AVMA accredited college or university and one year of shelter medicine in a municipal animal shelter or humane organization. Must currently be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Texas and have current DEA certificate. Schedule is eight hour shifts Monday through Friday with some flexibility and hours may include evenings and weekends. A résumé must be submitted with application.
