SENIOR ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY (CHIEF PROSECUTOR)
DEPARTMENT: CITY ATTORNEY
Duties include serving as the chief municipal court prosecutor, including representing the state of Texas in cases being heard before a judge or jury in municipal court; preparing and defending against motions and requests filed with the municipal court; conducting pre-trial hearings to educate defendants on options for disposing of their criminal cases; negotiating with defense attorneys regarding pleading or trying cases; interviewing citizen complainants and providing information relating to legal action; representing the city in code enforcement cases; providing training to various city departments; and supervising two prosecutors and a senior legal assistant. Duties will require excellent writing, analytical, and presentation skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with city departments and staff. Must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the state of Texas; a minimum of ten years of professional legal experience, including at least five years of municipal prosecution or related experience required. If and when requested, a (non‑returnable) legal writing sample and presentation materials must be provided. All applicants will be subject to a criminal history check. PAY GRADE GG34 / FULL PAY RANGE $10,676 - $15,050 PER MONTH ($128,112 - $180,600 ANNUALLY)
