About the Position
The Chief of Psychiatry will work with the Maricopa County Correctional Health Services Executive Leadership Team and provide an innovative and multidisciplinary design of services to develop and implement clinical protocols and organize quality improvement activities. Collaboratively, work with the Mental Health Director to manage the mental health and psychiatry team. The Chief of Psychiatry provides direct oversight and direction regarding psychiatric services in all clinics and the Mental Health Unit.

We Require
- Three years of experience practicing as a psychiatrist in an inpatient setting
- Two years in a leadership position as a manager, supervisor, or another lead role that involved clinical oversight of medical staff
- Doctoral degree from an accredited and approved school of medicine or osteopathic medicine
- Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Arizona. Must not have any pending actions by the Arizona Board of Medicine or any other state
- Must have completed an approved U.S. residency or fellowship training program in psychiatry
- Board Certification in Psychiatry
- Current DEA certification upon hire
- Current NPI number or ability to obtain prior to hire
- Current BLS CPR certification or ability to obtain prior to hire
- Must complete a fingerprint clearance and pass a background check

Job Contributions
- Collaboratively work with the Mental Health Director to manage the mental health and psychiatry team
- Develop a working relationship with the CHS forensic team that delivers Restoration to Competency (RTC) services
- Guide psychiatric providers and mental health staff, when needed, in determining patient candidates for Court Ordered Evaluations (COE)
- If indicated, evaluate and update programs (e.g., Long-Acting Injectable sample program). The Chief of Psychiatry makes recommendations regarding new programs or services
- Develop and conduct training programs related to clinical treatment, assessment, and psychiatric protocols for new and existing staff. Establish, update, and oversee all clinical protocols
- Responsible for providing clinical direction, oversight, and guidance for psychiatric examinations, clinical interventions, and release decision-making
- Collaboratively, work with CHS's Medical Director on developing or updating all clinical policies and procedures
- Responsible for the quality of clinical operations. Overall, the Chief manages staff assignments
- The Chief of Psychiatry serves as the subject-matter expert to attorneys and in all legal proceedings
- Accountable for developing policies and standards for the mental health program to ensure compliance with existing laws and regulations.
- Interview, recruit, and select staff for clinical and mental health functions
- Organize and lead multidisciplinary committees and workgroups
- The Chief of Psychiatry guides the psychiatrists and mid-level mental health prescribing staff on the appropriate use of formulary medications. Also, on and custody restrictions.
- Ensure that mid-level prescribers are supervised according to statutory requirements, including the co-signing of orders weekly if required
- The Chief of Psychiatry plays an active role in mental health-related, jail-based classification, administrative, and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with other disciplines within the facility (administration, correctional officers, medical, and others); and, when clinically appropriate, with outside providers
- The Chief of Psychiatry will represent Maricopa County and the CHS department with external departments and community stakeholders
- On-call responsibilities, as indicated, will be by phone

- Frequent changes, unscheduled tasks, and interruptions may occur
- Must be able to handle multiple, complicated tasks and perform with accuracy with short deadlines
