THE POSITION
As Development Services Director, you will drive the city's growth by leading initiatives aligned with strategic goals. Reporting directly to the City Manager, you will work closely with the Economic Development Corporation (EDC), key employees, and community organizations to foster sustainable economic growth. This role involves guiding department leaders in planning and zoning, overseeing strategic planning initiatives, and enhancing city infrastructure.
Your responsibilities include managing complex projects essential to the city's long-term growth, such as land use planning, revitalization efforts, and community development programs. Additionally, you will plan, organize, direct, and review administrative operations related to development services, ensuring all efforts align with the city's vision for sustainable growth.

Qualifications
The position requires a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Architecture, Engineering, Economics, Urban Planning, or a related field, though relevant professional experience may substitute for educational requirements. You should have at least five years of progressive leadership experience, with executive or municipal leadership preferred. Experience in development, including strategic planning and growth management, is essential. The successful candidate will hold or be able to obtain the ICC Certified Building Official (CBO) designation within three years of employment, as well as certifications for Residential and Commercial Plans Examiner, Building Inspector, and Texas State Plumbing Inspection License. ICC Certification as a Residential Energy Code Plan Reviewer must be obtained within one year. Physical requirements include the ability to perform light work, including walking or standing for extended periods and exerting up to 20 pounds of force regularly.

As Development Services Director, you will review construction plans for compliance, issue permits, and oversee inspections of new and remodeled work. You will guide department leaders within Development Services, fostering collaboration, and assist the City Manager in overseeing strategic planning and complex projects, including land use planning and zoning.
Collaborate with the EDC to facilitate projects that promote sustainable economic growth and enhance city infrastructure. You will also manage key development projects, ensuring they align with city objectives, and represent the City in interactions with governmental jurisdictions and community organizations. Additionally, you will contribute to policy development, engage with the community to build strong relationships, and assist the City Council in technical areas related to Building Codes.
