KANSAS CITY SERVICE OPERATIONS DIRECTOR
The Service Operations Director plays a critical leadership role in optimizing and managing service operations, account/project management, and organic sales to drive profitability and ensure customer retention. This position encompasses broader responsibilities including talent management, continuous quality improvement, cultural leadership, and contribution to strategic planning initiatives.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities:
- Establishes and implements operations and organic sales plans, procedures, and performance standards for the assigned region which are aligned with the U.S. Engineering Service's strategic goals, focusing on service agreements, repairs, service projects, and facilities management
- Leads and manages U.S. Engineering Service’s team members in the assigned region, including recruitment and selection, performance management, talent development, mentorship, succession planning, and administration of human resources policies and procedures
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with key clients / strategic customers to effectively serve as an escalation point in resolving client complaints and expanding business opportunities
- Partners with the Regional Vice President for budgeting, forecasting, overhead management, profit management, and formulation of the regional business plan, and oversees the review, negotiation, and execution of contracts and subcontracts for the region
- Monitor and respond to Revenue, Gross Profit, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure optimal performance
- Collaborates with the regional VP of Service and Sales Director to drive service agreement base growth, ensure accurate pricing, and provide quality control of estimates
- Make operational decisions regarding Service Software maintenance and implementation, including cost rates, T&M rate schedules, and regional workflows
- Partners with the Director of Customer Support Services Team in ensuring support services are consistent with other regions and aligned with the U.S. Engineering Service’s strategy
- Establish and implement organic sales and operations plans aligned with the company's regional strategic goals, and partner with Midwest Construction to convert qualified projects into service opportunities for growth
- Champion a Safety Culture for the region and partner with the Field Operations Managers and Safety Manager to ensure a safe working environment for all team members
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction science management is strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of field and leadership experience will be considered.
Experience:
- 10 years of experience in mechanical construction, with a minimum of 5 years managing operations in a business unit, preferably a mechanical service division
- Experience as a member of a senior leadership and/or strategic planning team is preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical service industry practices, processes, and standards.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills; with a proven ability to foster effective professional relationships, both internally and externally.
- Ability to influence, present, and articulate messages to target audiences who may possess varying levels of technical knowledge
- Ability to build and develop high-performance teams through innovative and effective management techniques.
- Ability to work autonomously but within the parameters of corporate policy and standards
- Ability to identify and research potential opportunities, assist with procurement strategies, and leverage knowledge gained during the pre-award process to win proposal competitions.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, complemented by strategic and innovative thinking to lead and manage change efforts
- Customer focus; dedicated to meeting the expectations of internal and external customers by gaining their trust and delivering results.
Physical and/or travel demands:
- Routine driving to client sites is required
- Occasional travel to other regional offices for strategic planning or other client requirements.
- Physical demands include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, and lifting. Position includes sitting and standing, use of telephone, keyboard, and computer monitor.
Benefits and Compensation:
- The range for this position has been established at $142,080 to $200,688 per year and is U.S. Engineering’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of the posting. The compensation offered to the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training
- Your total compensation will go beyond the number on your paycheck. Team members are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance as well as paid time off. An industry-leading benefits package including health, dental, and vision plans, matching retirement contributions, and matching 529 contributions all add to your bottom line
