Responsible for performing a variety of routine and complex technical assignments, relative to the civil engineering and construction field, with emphasis on construction inspection, to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and other applicable regulations.
Essential Job Functions

- Responsible for the inspection of public and private subdivisions, commercial/industrial developments, lot grading plans, and driveway permits.
- Inspects all phases of roadway construction such as clearing/grubbing, embankment, drainage, sub-grade/base, paving, striping/signing, landscaping, NPDES, etc.
- Identifies potential construction errors, conflicts, and regulatory violations.
- Inspects traffic management at construction sites.
- Maintains records of inspection activity and completes related reports.
- Collects all required close-out documents for subdivisions and commercial projects.
- Receives, responds to, and documents public inquiries and complaints.
- Attends preconstruction meetings in order to explain inspection standards and procedures to architects, engineers, owners, contractors, and developers.
- Provides field inspection reports.
- Perform bond inspections (performance and maintenance).
- Perform after-hours inspections as required.
- Assist in CDBG inspections.
- Initiate Code Enforcement cases and issue Notices of Violation for noncompliance with the Land Development Code relating to construction or Public Safety.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in civil construction, construction inspection or code enforcement; or a combination of training and experience.
Miscellaneous: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers’ License.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of all codes or related general development construction practices.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, contractors, architects, engineers, owners, and the general public.
- Ability to read and understand complicated plans and blueprints.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination are required in the operation of vehicles.
Physical Demand Requirements
Physical Demand: Medium
- 50 pounds maximum lifting.
- Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 25 lbs.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
- Good eyesight for production or safety of self and others.
- Physical demand requirements are in excess of light work.
- Physical agility is required in climbing, bending, and reaching.
- Required to have a clear vision near distances and at distances of 20 feet or more.
